Internal communication
The strong growth of itemis is the central challenge for the internal corporate communication. This applies, for example, to integrate new employees into the company and secondly, to inform the permanent staff on a regular basis. Particularly important is also to reach the people who do not work on site, but are used by our customers. At itemis we use the following means of communication.
Podcast
These audio messages appear on a weekly basis and are produced and edited by our own staff. The podcast provides information about the current development of the company and provides facts on upcoming events, conferences and lecture dates and background information on client projects. Our audio messages have been established as a central medium of internal corporate communications.
Yammer
In many companies there is the word which is used symbolically for informal communication.
Microblogging is an optional communication channel for all employees that even allows those who cannot participate in the real Flurfunk, to carry on conversations or exchange information over a short distance.
We use the platform Yammer, a corporate communications for the optimized microblogging service. This allows easy inter-site communication networks to be created. Participants only need an e-mail address that identifies their affiliation with the company. Yammer works over the internet, is largely free of charge and is available for BlackBerry and iPhone. The application is available to all employees through their company mobile phones.
Conventions
Conventions are what we call the itemis information sessions, held three times per year for all employees.
Technological trends and innovations from the projects are prepared by staff at these events for employees and presented. The management report beforehand and is available for discussion. The aim of these events is direct personal contact and the informal exchange of colleagues.
Lecture series
Lectures are another regular feature of internal and external corporate communication. The lectures are held once a month at different locations. Participation for employees is optional and is always open and free for guests. The lectures cover a wide range of topics. They are an important constant for the development of our workforce. Here we rely on the motivation of our employees and offer them opportunity to present their issues to an interested group of colleagues and guests present, and thus to create the multiplication of know-how in an active role.
Portals
As in any company there are a lot of questions to which answers are essential for a smooth process: How do I connect to the internet at site XY? Whom should I contact if I need new hardware? Who gets the bill for travel expenses? The answers to such questions are given to our employees in three »Web 2.0 portals« The maintenance of the content is carried out by the marketing, human resources and infrastructure departments.
Blogs
Another element of corporate communication are blogs. Many itemis employees run their own blogs. For example, where people publish detailed articles on specific topics and share their knowledge with their colleagues and the public. The main contributions are automatically pooled and displayed on the central itemis websites.
Information flea market
For all of the information that cannot be spread through the channels listed, at itemis there is the Info-Flea Market. Behind it lies a Wiki-platform in which the structure and contents are not restricted. Access is free for all employees. In actuality, no value is specified. Just like a real flea market.
