MDSD-Potential analysis
Abstract
With model based methods (MDSD) you can distinctly enhance the efficiency and quality of software development.
In the scope of our MDSD potential analysis, we examine if and how you could profit from model-based software development.
We do this by holding a two-day workshop with you.
Model-based software development (MDSD) and domain specific languages, so-called DSL’s, are on everyone’s lips. They promise an increase in the efficiency and quality of software development. Model-based development poses distinctly enhanced prospects. Not only for large projects with long life cycles or product line development, but particularly also with the standardization of your heterogeneous IT-system.
But does model-based development also make sense in my business? And what are the resulting concrete benefits with it? What requirements must be fulfilled? What does this mean for my development process and where are adjustments necessary? What tools are appropriate and how does this integrate itself into the existing system topography?
The MDSD potential analysis answers these questions specifically for your environment. Seasoned MDSD experts of itemis come to you for 2 days and work with you to determine if, where and how model-based development in your environment makes sense.
The workshop starts with a brief overview, reconciliation of terms, available alternatives and expectations. This is followed by consideration of the following aspects:
- Is your area of application (domain) suitable for model-based development?
- How do you best introduce model-based development in your environment? What would be a good prototype?
- Is your development process mature enough?
- Have you a good understanding of your architecture?
- Where does your team stand? Which learning efforts are to be taken into consideration?
- Which description forms (notations) are suited for your area of application
- Which tools are applicable?
After these two days we construct a report from the accumulated information, which summarizes and assesses the above mentioned aspects in your context. As a result of the MDSD potential analysis you obtain not only information on your status, but also a realistic assessment of what potential for improvement model-based development has for you. We show you the possibilities to reach this potential and with it give concrete recommendations for the next steps.
