EclipseCon 2010
EclipseCon: itemis developers nominated for “Eclipse Award”
Abstract
From March 22nd - 25th the Eclipse developing community is meeting in Santa Clara, California for their annual conference. itemis AG, being among the bronze-sponsors, has good prospects in achieving the “Eclipse Community Award”: Xtext, masterminded by a team of the independent Lünen IT-consulting company, is one of the three finalists in the category “Most Innovative Project”. The open source framework with which domain-specific languages as well as programming languages can be developed, accomplished the sixth and penultimate milestone for Eclipse 3.6, the new version of the free development environment, shortly before the annual meeting.
itemis AG, actively participating in the strategic orientation of the developing platform »Eclipse«, is also represented in the Board of Directors of the Eclipse Foundation with two seats: Ed Merks, leader of development at itemis was confirmed in his office as representative of the Eclipse committers. “He not only speaks as leader for the Eclipse Modeling Project and Eclipse Modeling Framework but more than that. This engagement was honoured by the Eclipse community”, member of board at itemis Wolfgang Neuhaus, also a member of the committee, but not being eligible this year, is pleased to comment.
When the great Eclipse family is getting together for the “EclipseCon 2010” next week, the outlook already is focused on June 23rd 2010. Only three months and one milestone separate Xtext and 24 further projects of the Eclipse Modeling Project from the release of a new Eclipse version named Helios. For Sven Efftinge of itemis and his team of developers that means plenty to do, even though the ground-breaking improvements are already implemented: “Still, with the sixth milestone there were some interesting features. The users can look forward to many improvements in detail and new functions in the release of Eclipse 3.6”, the itemis expert promises.
