XSAM

XSAM stands for XML itemis SECURE Model, which is the standard XML-based format used for importing and exporting data with itemis SECURE. All properties and structures of data are included in this file. For better understanding of the XSAM format, it is recommended to create your own model in itemis SECURE and export it to an XSAM file. You will find the exact steps of how to export it under " Export to XSAM" down below. For more information about the structure of an XSAM file, have a look in the subchapter XSAM format of the chapter Advanced Feature.

Import an XSAM File

Corresponding menu entries:
Import XSAM-File (Updated Nodes)
Import XSAM-File into Current Model (Updated Nodes)
Paste XSAM-File from File (Ignores IDs)

There are three different options to import XSAM data in itemis SECURE. The main difference is between import and paste options. When importing, the XSAM file has a reference to the target model or node where the file should be imported. The paste option is only used to perform a simple copy-paste. There will be no reference to the target model.

The reference of a model is called modelRef, while the reference of a node is called ID. The modelRef/ID helps to assign the XSAM file to the respective model or node and thus, for example, revise already existing data or avoid duplicate data.

To import or paste data in the XSAM format, select the corresponding menu entry from the menu bar. You can also right-click on the node or model in the project explorer, or in the editor window itself to initiate an import.

If you want to import an XML file into a specific model which is opened and currently selected, please select Import XSAM-File into Current Model (Updated Nodes) . itemis SECURE checks the IDs or external IDs automatically and updates the matching references in the model.

If you want to import an XSAM file with specific IDs, select Import XSAM-File (Updated Nodes) . The target model to import into is retrieved from the XSAM. You can only import XSAM files like this if there is a matching model ID in your current TARA project. itemis SECURE will automatically update the nodes which need to be changed.

Export as XSAM File

Corresponding menu entries:
Export Model to XSAM
Export Node to XSAM

To export data in the XSAM format, put the cursor on the node or model you would like to export. Then choose the corresponding entry from the Import/Export menu, either Export Model to XSAM or Export Node to XSAM . You can also right-click on the node or model in the project explorer or in the editor window itself to initiate an export. The exported XSAM file is saved to the temporary directory of itemis SECURE and can subsequently be opened with any text editor. Please associate the file extension .xsam with a text editor of your choice to enable the latter.

After the XSAM file is created, you will get the following pop-up to select from. You can either open the file, open the folder or copy the content.
